An unmarked silver Badge for a ‘Beefsteak’ Dining Club.
An unmarked silver British ‘Beefsteak’ dining club Badge in the form of a miniature griddle, engraved with contemporary initials and the motto ‘Donum Amicitiae et Gloria Solomonis.’ Circa 1800. There is a suspensory ring to enable the badge to be worn around the neck. A large number of dining clubs were formed in the 18th and 19th centuries in Britain and Ireland, emulating the Beefsteak Club formed in Covent Garden of which John Thornhill and William Hogarth were members.
