An exceptional George II silver Cup and Cover.
A George II silver Cup and cover, London 1733, by Charles Kandler, the handles formed as vigorous demi-leopards rampant issuing from scrolled cornucopia-like mounts with foliate ends, the otherwise plain body decorated with unusual bands of spiralling flat-chased decoration and the normal mid-rim replaced by a horizontal band of flat-chased lines with angled foliage interspersed with clusters of pellets.
Marked under the body, the lid unmarked. This cup has been x-rayed to ensure that it is not a ‘duty-dodger’.
Provenance: Walter Basil Graham Montgomery of Kinross House.
