An art deco silver Toastrack by Robert Edgar Stone.

R.E. Stone.
A good silver Toastrack in the art deco style, London 1946. Struck also with Stone’s signature. Stone, who maintained a workshop in London for many years, was one of the finest silversmiths of the twentieth century in Britain.

He, like Charles Boyton, invariably added his signature to his designs, following on from Henry Murphy who added the falcon mark of his workshop to the hallmarks: a significant step in moving away from the comparative anonymity of earlier manufacturing workshops towards a recognition of the importance of the maker as opposed to the retailer of silver articles.
