A rare pair of George III Serving Tongs.

A pair of George III fiddle thread pattern scissor-type Serving Tongs, London 1812, by Eley, Fearn and Chawner. Engraved with a crest and coronet for the Earl of Poulett [4th Earl Poulett, 1756-1819].

Scissor type Salad servers of this form are extremely unusual in English silver at this date. Seymour Rabinovitch , ‘Antique Silver Servers for the Dining Table’, illustrates a Strasbourg silver example and a bone, French prisoner of war, example.
