A pair of Victorian silver patent tongs.

£350.00

A pair of Victorian silver patent Tongs, the inside of the bowls gilt, London 1880, by Barnard Brothers. Stamped ‘Patent.’ These curious tongs deserve further research as to the precise intended function  – perhaps a tea infuser. The pierced bowls are designed to close together to form an ovoid strainer. A plated pair of identical design has been noted – struck only with the word ‘Patent’ on the exterior.
