A late 17th century English silver Thimble and Needlecase.
A late 17th century English silver Thimble and Needle Case, maker’s mark only, ‘DS, crown above’, circa 1690. The whole is decorated with stylised foliate engraving. This maker, one of a group of smallworkers making spoons, boxes and other small items in late 17th and early 18th century London remains unidentified. Some attempts have been made to attribute the mark to Daniel Shelmerdine, a cutler, but the attribution is incorrect.
