A late 17th century English silver Box.
A late 17th century squeeze-opening Box, foliate engraved, circa 1690, ‘DS’ crown above. This maker’s mark has been occasionally ascribed to Daniel Shelmerdine: however, that attribution is incorrect. This maker was clearly one of a number of immigrant box-makers working in London from the end of the 17th century into the first decades of the 18th century. The names of most of these makers remains uncertain.
