A larger silver Edwardian Letter Opener Sword with Scabbard.
An Edwardian silver Letter Opener formed as the Sword of and Officer in the 2nd Battalion Life Guards, London 1903, by George W. White and Company.
This sword was purchased by Sir Morgan George Crofton, 1879-1958, who succeeded his brother as baronet in 1902, and married Frances Margaret, only daughter of Lt. Col. Leonard Howard Lloyd Irby [divorced 1910]. Sir Morgan transferred to the Life Guards in 1903 from the Irish Guards, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Sir Morgan had served in the Boer War and was severely wounded at the relief of Ladysmith. He also fought in the First World War and was twice mentioned in dispatches,
Good overall. Some wear to the gilding on the hilt, two tiny dents on the scabbard.
