A late 18th century French silver Ladle, or ‘Louche’, Salins, Franche-Comté, circa 1780, by Pierre-Ignace-Joachim Thiebaud. The reverse of the handle is engraved with coats-of-arms accollé beneath a ducal coronet.
This form of large ladle is apparently peculiar to Franche-Comté, adjacent to the Swiss border.
