A George IV Scottish silver Wine Funnel.

A George IV Scottish silver Wine Funnel, Edinburgh 1828, by Leonard Urquhart. The rim of the funnel is applied with a bold border of vine leaves.

Urquhart produced high quality silver during a short career. He first registered a mark in 1828, when local directories give his address as 8 MacDowall Street. By 1830/31 he had moved to 15, Shakespeare Square before moving again in 1834 to 47, High Street with a house at 7, Drummond Street. He was dead by 1845 when the Register of Births noted : ‘The deceased Leonard Urquhart Silver Smith residing in No. 2 Drummond Street and Helen Miller his Spouse had a Daughter Born to them on the Twenty first day of October last – named Leonardine Helen.’
