A George III silver Society Badge.

A parcel-gilt unmarked silver Society medal, circa 1770, in its original case. The silver-gilt centre of the medal, against a rayed background, formed from a horse-shoe, race cup, spur, whips and snaffle bit and the horse shoe engraved with a motto from Martial ‘Non Alienus Eques’ (a knight of his own making).
This medal or badge seems closely related to the badge of the ‘Knights of the Golden Horseshoe’, formed in Virginia in 1716.
