A George III silver Masonic Deacon’s Jewel, London 1817, by Thomas and James Phipps. The front of the Jewel is applied with a cast Dove of Peace.
An identical Jewel by Thomas Harper, hallmarked for 1814, is illustrated on plate 19, l, in ‘Masonic Emblems and Jewels, Treasures at Freemaason’s Hall, London’, by William Hammond, F.S.A., published 1917. Hammond points out the the Dove of Peace superseded the Mercury at the Union of the ‘Antient’ and ‘Modern’ Lodges in 1814.
