A 19th century Irish silver-gilt ‘Celtic Revival’ Brooch.
An unmarked Irish silver-gilt Celtic Revival Brooch. The reverse is applied with a design registration lozenge for 23rd July 1849. The British Museum has a similar brooch – part of the Hull Grundy bequest [1978,1002.529]. The design was registered by Messrs Joseph Johnson, 23 Wellington Quay, Dublin, copying a ninth-century silver penannular ring-brooch with an Ogham inscription on the reverse, found near Virginia in Co.Cavan, and now in the National Museum of Ireland, Dublin.
