A 17th century silver armorial Book Clasp.

The centre section of a 17th century silver Book Clasp, circa 1670, the reverse struck with a maker’s mark only ‘IN’ and the front engraved with the 15th century arms of Ralph Rokeby and his wife, Margaret Danby, married circa 1490. A manuscript note of circa 1900 states that the clasp belonged to the ‘Ayscough Book’ in the Library of Hooton Pagnell [Hall]. Ayscough was the maiden name of Ralph Rokeby’s mother.
