A 17th century English silver ‘Cartridge’ handled Knife.

A 17th century ‘Cartridge’ handled silver Knife with silver blade, circa 1675. It is very unusual for knives of this type to have a silver blade. The maker’s mark ‘IC’ within a heart, appears on a number of knife handles of this period and is probably a London maker. [See the Victorian and Albert Museum collection, reference VAM M.69-69C-1950]. The end of the handle is engraved with a contemporary crest. Marked on handle and blade.
